Several people have been injured in what is said to be a massive knife off the north coast of Auckland.
Several people were injured in a mass knife attack on the North Auckland coast – where a woman says she had to run screaming after a man kicked her off the beach with a “big knife”.
The woman, who did not want to be named, lives near the beach and had stepped on it to take her dog for a walk on their normal route when she noticed a man near the water.
He turned and started approaching her and the woman at first thought that “she wanted to talk”.
“I was wearing headphones and I went to take off the headphones to talk to him because I thought he wanted that,” he told NZ Herald.
However, there was something about the man that made the woman angry, he said.
Then “he started running on me”.
According to local media, a large kitchen knife was found at the spot where many people were stabbed and witnesses say people were screaming and being stabbed accidentally in the incident this morning.
Issac Hong, an employee at CafeBayBay in Murrays Bay, said Material there was a woman stabbed at the bus stop opposite his cafe.
Hong said the alleged stabber then ran to Murrays Bay Beach and attacked an “elderly couple from Asia”.
Hong said witnesses in the area told him that the alleged knife ran into Mairangi Bay and was chased by construction workers from a nearby construction site before police arrested the alleged perpetrator.
Police confirmed that people were injured in an incident in Murrays Bay, but it was too early to say how they were injured. NZ Herald References.
A Mairangi Bay resident said he saw a man, who appeared to be in his 20s, holding a 20cm knife walking down the street by five men guarding him while holding guns.
The resident, who only wanted to be identified as Steve, said he was gardening outside his Montrose Terrace home when he saw the gunman escorted on the way to the waterfront.
The alleged perpetrator appeared to be at some level of anxiety, Steve told the Herald.
The people surrounding the man did not appear to know each other, he said. As they walked down the street, the group told members of the audience to step aside and make their way.
Two men hit the man holding a knife – one in the leg and one in the head – who brought him to the ground, Steve said.
“The man more or less lay down, I know he burst into tears, you could hear him crying. I think the realization has come “.
Steve was full of praise for the group of men who had surrounded the alleged perpetrator: “They were so good, they should be praised.”
Another witness said three people were stabbed and that three ambulances and three police cars were at the scene.
“Emergency services are attending an incident in Murrays Bay where many people have been injured,” said a police spokeswoman. “At this early stage we are still working to confirm the exact number and nature of the injuries.”
Police have arrested a man who is assisting them in the investigation.
Traffic is diverted and police have asked people to avoid the area.
Police will hold a press briefing at 2.45pm today.
North Coast MP Simon Watts said he knew he had been stabbed.
“A lot of people have been injured and my thoughts are with them and their families,” he said.
“We thank the police, the ambulance and the first responders for supporting our community today.”
East Coast Bays MP Eric Stanford said he was “extremely upset to hear about the tragic knife.”
“My heart goes out to all the victims and their families,” he said.
