Jada Pinkett Smith addresses Oscars slap in Red Table Talk episode

Jada Pinkett Smith talks about the incident at the Oscars between Chris Rock and her husband Will Smith. On the June 1 episode of Red Table Talk, Pinkett Smith opened the show by saying, “This is a really important red table talk about hair loss. Looking at what I’ve been through with my health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands of people have reached out to me through their stories.” I’m taking this moment to give our vixen family the opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition and to educate people about what vixen is really like.”

She went on to candidly recall what happened the night of the Oscars, hoping Smith and The Rock could discuss what happened and get out of the accident. “Now, for Oscar night, I really hope these two smart, capable men will have a chance to heal and talk about it and make up,” she said. “The state of the world today, we need both. And we all need each other more than ever. The thing is called living together. Thank you for listening.”

This episode is the first time Pinkett Smith mentions the Oscar incident on screen. The first episode of Season 5 of Red Table Talk, which aired on April 20 as the first episode since the Oscars, began with Pinkett Smith writing about her husband’s quarrel with The Rock at the Awards.

“Given everything that has happened in the past few weeks, the Smith family is focused on a deep recovery,” the statement said. “Some of the discoveries related to recovery, we will share at the table when the time comes. Until then… the table will continue to provide powerful, inspiring and healing testimonials like those of our incredibly amazing first guest.”

Pinkett Smith previously reacted with a vague public reaction two days after the TV incident, sharing a cartoon on Instagram that read: “It’s recovery season and I support it all.” On April 8, the Academy voted to ban Smith from all of its events, including the Academy Awards, for the next 10 years. Smith responded by saying he accepted and respected the decision. The ‘King Richard’ actor also took to Instagram immediately after the fight, apologizing directly to The Academy and The Rock. The Rock said on their March 30 preemptive show that he is “still going through” the slap and hasn’t spoken about it publicly yet.
